Dealroom’s profile lists Bluefors at an enterprise value of approximately $1.1 billion and includes it in its unicorn classification. The figure is not a newly announced funding round, and Bluefors has not issued its own valuation announcement.
Founded in 2008, the company develops cryogen-free dilution refrigerator systems. These create the extremely low temperatures required by several quantum computing technologies.
Infrastructure that grows with the machine
In March, Bluefors introduced its Modular Cryogenic Platform. The system is designed to let customers expand cooling infrastructure by adding modules as their requirements grow.
Bluefors presents the platform as a route towards supporting much larger quantum computing installations. That is a statement about the infrastructure’s intended development path, rather than evidence that customers already operate machines at the scale described.
The company’s recognition in Dealroom’s unicorn tracking highlights the commercial significance of the equipment surrounding quantum processors.
Quantum computers also depend on cooling, control electronics, measurement and integration. Bluefors provides a Finnish example of a business built around one of those essential needs.
