The amount invested in SemiQon was not disclosed. PostScriptum’s €30 million commitment covers a wider quantum investment programme, including control electronics, cooling and other enabling technologies.

PostScriptum also appointed former VTT President and CEO Antti Vasara to lead its quantum strategy.

Electronics designed for the cold

SemiQon develops cryogenic CMOS electronics using established semiconductor design and manufacturing methods. Its chips are intended for functions such as control and readout in quantum computing systems.

Operating electronics close to quantum processors requires careful management of power consumption and heat. SemiQon is developing devices specifically for those conditions.

Founded in 2023 to commercialise VTT technology, the company manufactures in Otaniemi. It has shipped its first commercial customer orders and is preparing a next-generation chip, according to the announcement.

SemiQon has also announced plans to relocate to the future Kvanttinova chip research and development centre in Otaniemi.

The investment focuses attention on the hardware surrounding quantum processors. Building larger systems requires progress across cooling, control and integration, creating opportunities for specialist companies supplying those parts of the stack.
